Martins Ifijeh
Martins Ifijeh is the Health Correspondent for THISDAY Newspaper currently heading the Health Beat. He first worked with The Nation Newspapers in 2007, and then The Union Newspaper in 2013, before joining THISDAY Newspaper in 2015.
Some of his stories have shaped policies and aided interventions in the Nigerian health sector. He has conducted exclusive interviews with the Co-owner of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates; the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General, Dr. Tedros Gabreyhesus, and his African Regional counterpart, Matshidiso Moeti, among other key global health and development figures.
He is a Masters’ degree holder from the prestigious Walden University, Baltimore, United States, and an alumnus of several institutions, including the School of Journalism, Columbia University, New York City, USA; School of Media Studies, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa, Witswatersand University, Johannesburg, South Africa, Pan Atlantic University, Lagos, Ambrose Alli University, among others.
Ifijeh is a multiple award-winning journalist with a bias for health and development reporting. He won awards for prestigious Nigeria Healthcare Excellence Award -Print Category, 2016, Early Childhood Development Reporting Global Awards, Washington DC, (2017), organized by the International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ); the Nordica Media Merit Awards, (Nigeria) 2018 and 2019, Merck Media Merit Award, 2020 for West Africa (print edition).
He currently sits as director on the boards of Diabetes Control Media Advocacy Group (DAICOMAG).
